That framing tracks with how the show has always worked — getting out of the wilderness was never going to be the finish line. These characters know exactly what they're capable of now. Rescue doesn't erase that; if anything, it just changes who finds out.

Who's coming back, and who's new

The core cast returns on both timelines: Melanie Lynskey, Christina Ricci, and Tawny Cypress in the present, Sophie Nélisse, Sophie Thatcher, and Jasmin Savoy Brown in the wilderness. Hilary Swank is back too, along with Samantha Hanratty, Courtney Eaton, Liv Hewson, Warren Kole, Kevin Alves, and Sarah Desjardins.

New for the final season: Elijah Wood joins as Walter Tattersall, and '80s icon Molly Ringwald has been cast as Vicky — Van's mother, described as a recently recovered alcoholic trying to make amends for her past. June Squibb is also joining in an undisclosed role. Nia Sondaya (Akilah) and Jenna Burgess (teen Melissa) were both bumped up to series regulars ahead of filming.

It's already in the can

This isn't a season still waiting on a production start date — filming ran from February through July 2026 in Vancouver, and Paramount+ has already put out teaser footage and photos. That's part of why the November date feels solid in a way earlier Yellowjackets rumors never quite did.

The questions still hanging over the finale

The big one: how does the wilderness half of the story actually end? Season 3 closed the loop on Pit Girl, but there's still a lot of distance between the crash, the eventual rescue, and the sanitized version of events the adult survivors have been telling for 25 years.

Then there's the after. The entire adult timeline has been one long argument that leaving the wilderness doesn't mean leaving it behind — buried secrets keep surfacing, and the final season sounds built to push that as far as it'll go.

Shauna's grip on power is its own loose thread. Once someone becomes the Antler Queen, stepping back down isn't really an option — and Natalie, Misty, and Taissa each have their own reasons to push back against what she's turned into.

And the question the show has never rushed to answer: how much of what happened out there was actually supernatural, versus fear, starvation, and trauma doing the explaining? Don't expect a tidy resolution on that front just because the season's the last one.
